Description |
Dr. Keefe sends a fiery letter in response to bandying about of the phrase "zero tolerance" in the local Catholic community. While she understands the reaction to news of pedophiles in the priesthood and the desire not to be seen as sheltering these in their sins, she draws on the legacy of the Novatian and Donatist schisms as heresies built on "zero tolerance" policies. She asks, "How do I explain to the Protestant student who walks up to me tomorrow and asks how the Catholic Church today can declare 'zero tolerance,' when up until now this has been a heresy?" |
