Description:
Dr. Keefe's English translation of Text 6 from the Latin which appears in her Explanationes Symboli Aevi Carolini (Turnhout: Brepols, 2012), 28. The translation includes notes and brief commentary. Dr. Keefe left both in draft form and may have intended to update or add certain portions prior to publication. The text has been checked and edited by Katie Benjamin, Divinity Archive Fellow. Text 6 is a brief interrogatory and response on the doctrine of the resurrection of the dead, specifically bodily resurrection. The responder allows an expectation that the resurrected will all be thirty years of age, not an uncommon interpretation of Ephesians 4:13 ("stature of the full maturity of Christ"), famously held by Augustine. Dr. Keefe's commentary notes the relationship between Texts 1, 6, and 15, and revisits her theory that "vivid" passages that painted mental pictures became increasingly popular at the end of the 8th century, when the Carolingian court reacted to their understanding of the Second Council of Nicaea (787) and its ruling on images by prohibiting them.
