| Description | Photo shows basilica looking down main aisle to altar at the end. Dr. Keefe notes she can hardly make out remains of baptistery on its NW side, in 3 sections, as well as narthex and atrium. Thick incense in air. Altar seemed to be half missing, because 2 bases for 2 more columns, but that would have made altar oblong. (However, Dr. Keefe notes, a characteristic of monumental temple altars in NE Peloponese was oblong shape -- Asklepios' is 15 meters long, meaning longer east-west.) | |
