In 1991 and again in 1992, Dr. Keefe applied to Duke University for funds to supplement her Grant-in-Aid from the American Council of Learned Societies. The funds supplemented the earliest stages into a research project she called "The Education of a Christendom: Clerical Instruction and Popular Belief in Ninth-Century Europe," which would ultimately be published as The Making of Christendom (2012).
