Tile: Churches of Revelation

Abstract

This tile plaque (which measures approximately 10" x 10") was presented to Duke on 5/20/15 in Izmir, Turkey by Mr. Levent Oral, President of Tutku Tours. The occasion was the celebration of Duke's first tour with that company. This tile, which was specially commissioned, was hand crafted by Ephesus Ceramics. It depicts a map of the Seven Churches of Revelation with their near-by modern cities. At the bottom are graphics for Duke University and Tutku Tours. The tile is not cast smooth, but incorporates textures under the glaze to set off the cities themselves and the decorative border.
