Description |
Nicaea. Underground baptistery one "block" from Church of Hagia Sophia. In a littered, overgrown yard, a stinky stairwell led down to this space, closed by an iron grill door with cobwebs and no lighting. The marble slabs against the wall have Christian symbols. A former ayasma (holy spring). |
