Duke Divinity School accepted its first Doctor of Theology (Th.D.) students in August of 2006. The program is interdisciplinary and academically rigorous, involving two academic years of full-time residency as well as language proficiency exams and comprehensive exams in the students' subject areas. The Th.D. culminates in the research and writing of a dissertation reflecting significant scholarship that aims to serve the church in its task of theological reflection and study of Scripture and matters of Christian faith and practice.
