The Crowder Collection of Wesleyana and American Methodism is comprised of a unique and diverse assortment of memorabilia related to John Wesley, Charles Wesley, Francis Asbury, and other instrumental Methodists in both the United Kingdom and America. Items included in this collection are commemorative tableware, paintings, prints, medallions and coins (exonumia), preserved wax seals, statuettes, jasperware, and manuscripts. The collection includes two original unpublished manuscripts of William Spencer, a Methodist preacher and Circuit Rider. Additionally, there are some scarcer items, including a bronze seal, two horse vertebrae carved and painted as preachers, a window stop, and glass lantern slides.
The collection was the generous gift of Thelma and Harold Crowder of South Boston, Virginia, who collected and preserved many items which memorialized Wesley and traditions of Methodism.
