Description |
Plaque reads: "Cylindrical base of a bronze statue, probably of a Roman emperor, with a relief representation of Amazonomachy. It was used later as a base for a pulpit in the Basilika of Alykison (Basilica B), where it was found. To this period is also dated the mosaic that covered part of the surface." (So base was resurfaced with Christian mosaic.) Dr. Keefe wonders if this is the ambo her article said was in the museum on the Nikopolis site, as she could not find another ambo in the museum. |
