Description |
Dr. Keefe knew only that a "circular hall" with mosaics had been found "below the medieval castle on an acropolis," and had a picture of the odd-shaped "font" (two half circles). After several false starts and visits to other churches, showed picture to "a young macho man on a motorbike" and "His face lit up + he recognized it!" Found area to the left of Agios Georgios, the main church of the town -- "the whole thing beautifully preserved (I took photos) + of apotropaic eye mosaics at its 2 entrances + vine in vase mosaic in between 2 halves + beautifully marble slabs covers inside of 2 fonts. I climbed under a fence + looked up close, even tho I shouldn't -- no one was about." |
