4.5 National Endowment for the Humanities, 1995–1998

In the autumn of 1994, Susan Keefe applied for both a Summer Stipend and a major, three-year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, geared toward kick-starting her latest research project on Carolingian creed commentaries. While the Summer Stipend application was ultimately unsuccessful, the major grant was awarded, and Dr. Keefe was able to spend much of her energy in the following years on research, travel, and writing. This collection includes her applications, her notes, her interim performance reports, an ultimately unsuccessful Luce Fellowship application from 2006 meant to secure additional funding for the project, and a travel journal of her misadventures kept while spending July of 1996 in various European libraries, as well as correspondence not selected for digitization, are all available in the Keefe Collection, Box 2, Folder 42.
