Abstract:
The primary purpose of the course is to read medieval Latin in order to increase your skill at it, for whatever use this may have in your planned academic goals and research and thesis work. The secondary purpose of this course is to gain some knowledge of Carolingian theology by reading documents from four debates that arose in the late eighth and ninth century regarding 1) Spanish Adoptionism; 2) the adoration of images (icons); 3) the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist; and 4) predestination.
