Description The Archaeological Museum at Sfax has some Christian mosaics from Maharès (30 km south of Sfax) and Skhira (80 km south of Sfax). Pictured mosaic is from the Great Basilica of Skhira (s. VI). The curator in the museum seemed to think the ancient buildings at Skhira have now "disappeared." This mosaic (from the main apse of the Basilica, to which a baptistery was attached) shows a chalice with two flourishing vines coming out of it, representing the Eucharistic meal.
