Description | The Archaeological Museum at Sfax has some Christian mosaics from Maharès (30 km south of Sfax) and Skhira (80 km south of Sfax). Pictured mosaic is from the Great Basilica of Skhira (s. VI). The curator in the museum seemed to think the ancient buildings at Skhira have now "disappeared." This mosaic of two cerfs without chalice symbolizes "the faithful desiring baptism." | |
