Description Basilica of St. Vitalis. In the middle of the main aisle there is a sunken quatrefoil pool Dr. Keefe at first thought was a baptismal font, but concluded is not. It has no steps and is quite shallow (about one and a half feet deep) and about six feet across. It is covered with mosaics of fish and squid or eel.
