Description A marble quarry, famous since Roman times for its yellow marble, which was exported all over the Mediterranean world. Each block was marked with the emperor's name. A sacred mountain looms over the quarry with a Numidian temple on top. On the sides going up are carvings on the rocks--votive stellae to Baal-Saturn. One is shown here. On the far side of the mountain, at its bottom, ruins of a Byzantine church have been uncovered. Dr. Keefe found no traces of a baptistery or font.
