On Monday, September 19, 2016, the Divinity School celebrated the momentous contribution of Dr. Richard Lischer, the James T. and Alice Mead Cleland Professor of Preaching, to our common life with a program called "A Vocation to Preach." Dr. Lischer retired from Duke Divinity School July 1, 2016. The "Vocation to Preach" program involved a day of lectures, worship and sermons, and conversation about preaching. Divinity faculty and distinguished guests for the day included Ellen Davis, William Turner, Lauren Winner, Chuck Campbell, Richard Lischer, Will Willimon, Luke Powery, and Thomas Long, the Bandy Professor Emeritus of Preaching at Candler School of Theology. The day was also marked by the presentation of a Festschrift in honor of Dr. Lischer, and the afternoon concluded with a reception.
