The Religion in North Carolina Digital Collection began in 2012 as a grant-funded collaboration between Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest University to collect, digitize, and make widely available publications relating to religion and religious bodies in North Carolina. Project leadership based in the Duke Divinity School Library oversaw the development and promotion of the collection through the conclusion of its initial three-year grant in July 2015. The collection contains over 6,000 items, including local church histories, periodicals, clergy biographies, cookbooks, event programs, directories, and much more from a diverse array of denominations and practices. Religion in North Carolina was launched with funding provided by the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the NC Department of Cultural Resources.
