dc.description.abstract The central dome of the Hagia Sophia is accented with four seraphim (cherubim?). Originally all faces were revealed, but were covered during the period when the Christian place of worship became a mosque (and possibly during iconoclast periods in the Byzantine era?). During restoration, some of the faces have been uncovered. en_US
