dc.description.abstract | Precinct of the Temple of Athena in Pergamum. A courtyard is in the foreground. Just right of the tree is a circular stone base that may have been used to display a statue of Athena. The people toward the rear of the photo are standing on the foundation remains of the no longer extant temple to Athena itself. The red structure in the far distance is a (Roman?) era addition to the Hellenistic theatre that is not visible, but spills down the incline behind the red brick structure. | en_US |
